ReceiptWave Consumer Terms of Use
ReceiptWave Consumer Terms of Use
ReceiptWave Pty Ltd | ABN 25 696 339 992
Version 1.2 | Effective 23 October 2026
Important points
ReceiptWave provides the technology used to deliver, display and store a digital receipt. The merchant is the seller and remains responsible for the sale, the goods or services, the receipt information, refunds, warranties, loyalty rewards and offers.
You can view a web receipt without creating an account. Creating an account and claiming a receipt are optional.
Receipt information comes from the merchant or its point-of-sale system. If it is wrong, contact the merchant. ReceiptWave remains responsible if its own service incorrectly alters information that it received correctly.
Your receipts are private unless you choose to share them. You can choose to share receipts with an accountant, bookkeeper or employer; they can download copies, and copies already downloaded stay with them if you stop sharing.
Claiming a receipt or connecting to a merchant does not, by itself, consent to promotional messages. ReceiptWave will ask you to make a separate affirmative choice before merchant promotions are enabled.
These Terms do not exclude rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, including rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
These points are a summary. The sections below form the Terms.
1. About these Terms
1.1 These Terms govern your use of ReceiptWave's consumer services, including web receipts, the ReceiptWave consumer app, receipt claiming and storage, loyalty features, merchant connections, offers, messages, wallet passes and related features (the Consumer Service).
1.2 The Consumer Service is provided by ReceiptWave Pty Ltd (ABN 25 696 339 992) (ReceiptWave, we, us or our).
1.3 Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information. It should be read with these Terms, but it is a privacy notice rather than permission for us to do anything the law requires separate consent for.
1.4 You accept these Terms when you create an account and select the acceptance control presented in the app. You do not need to create an account or accept these Terms merely to view a web receipt.
1.5 If you use a web receipt without an account, the provisions concerning lawful use, intellectual property, third-party services and the allocation of responsibility between ReceiptWave and the merchant apply to your use to the extent permitted by law.
1.6 If applicable law requires a parent or guardian to approve your use of an account feature, you may only use that feature with that approval. ReceiptWave does not impose an age gate merely to let a person view a receipt.
2. What ReceiptWave does
2.1 ReceiptWave provides technology that allows participating shops and other businesses (Merchants) to send, display and manage digital receipts and related features, and lets you choose to share your receipts with an accountant, bookkeeper or employer.
2.2 ReceiptWave is not the seller of the goods or services shown on a receipt and does not take part in the underlying purchase.
2.3 The Merchant remains responsible for:
the goods and services it sells;
the price, payment, delivery and performance of the sale;
refunds, returns, warranties and other consumer remedies;
the transaction information produced by its point-of-sale or other connected system;
its tax and record-keeping obligations;
its loyalty program, rewards, promotions, offers and messages; and
its compliance with laws applying to its business and customer transactions.
2.4 ReceiptWave is responsible for operating the Consumer Service with due care and skill to the extent required by law. ReceiptWave does not verify whether the Merchant correctly recorded the underlying sale.
3. Viewing a web receipt without an account
3.1 You may view a ReceiptWave web receipt without giving us your name, email address or phone number and without creating an account.
3.2 When you open a web receipt, ReceiptWave stores a random first-party device identifier on your device. We use it for functions such as showing how many loyalty stamps may be waiting for you. It contains no name or contact details, works only on ReceiptWave pages and is not intended to track you across unrelated websites.
3.3 We treat the identifier as pseudonymous device information and protect it accordingly. You can remove it by clearing ReceiptWave site data or cookies in your browser. Our Privacy Policy gives more detail, including applicable retention periods.
3.4 A receipt link or claim code may allow anyone who holds it to view the associated receipt. Keep it reasonably secure and do not publish it. Links and codes may expire for security reasons.
4. Your account
4.1 If you create an account, you must provide information that is accurate and keep your sign-in method reasonably secure.
4.2 You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless it results from a matter within ReceiptWave's reasonable control. Tell us promptly through the support function in the app or website if you believe another person has accessed your account.
4.3 Depending on the features available, you may sign in using a password, login link or supported third-party authentication service, such as Sign in with Apple. The third party's own terms may also apply to its service.
5. Claiming receipts
5.1 When you select Claim receipt, you ask ReceiptWave to associate the entire receipt with your account so that you can access it later and use account features such as tags, warranty reminders, loyalty and tax-related organisation.
5.2 A receipt can reveal more than an ordinary purchase total. For example, its merchant name or line items could reveal information relating to health products, religious activity, political donations or another sensitive matter.
5.3 By deliberately claiming a receipt after this explanation is presented, you expressly ask ReceiptWave to store the complete receipt with your account, including information of that kind if it appears on the receipt. If you do not want a particular receipt associated with your account, do not claim it. You may still view the web receipt without adding it to your account.
5.4 ReceiptWave does not ask Merchants to add unnecessary sensitive information to receipts and does not use receipt contents to infer sensitive characteristics about you for advertising.
5.5 You must not knowingly claim a receipt that belongs to another person unless you are authorised to do so.
6. Receipt information and tax invoices
6.1 Receipt information generally comes from the Merchant or its point-of-sale system. ReceiptWave may transmit, parse, reformat or display that information so it can be used in the Consumer Service.
6.2 If the underlying transaction information is incorrect, incomplete or duplicated, contact the Merchant that issued the receipt. ReceiptWave cannot decide a dispute about what was bought, the price charged or whether a refund is due.
6.3 If ReceiptWave's service incorrectly alters or omits information that ReceiptWave received correctly, tell us and we will investigate and, where reasonably possible, correct the ReceiptWave display or reprocess the receipt.
6.4 A document is a tax invoice only if it is identified and contains the information required by law. Where a tax-invoice feature is available, ReceiptWave may generate or deliver the document on the Merchant's behalf using information supplied by the Merchant. The Merchant remains the supplier and is responsible for its GST status and the transaction information it supplies.
6.5 ReceiptWave does not provide tax, accounting or legal advice. You are responsible for deciding what records you need to keep.
7. Loyalty stamps and rewards
7.1 ReceiptWave may allow a Merchant to offer loyalty stamps, stamp cards, rewards or similar benefits. The Merchant operates the loyalty program; ReceiptWave supplies the technology used to record and display it.
7.2 The Merchant may publish lawful program rules covering eligible purchases, how stamps are earned, the number required for a reward, expiry, redemption and correction of genuine errors. Those rules apply in addition to these Terms and must be presented clearly by the Merchant.
7.3 The Merchant is responsible for honouring an earned reward in accordance with its published rules and applicable law. ReceiptWave does not guarantee that a Merchant will continue trading or continue a loyalty program indefinitely.
7.4 A stamp or reward may be corrected if it was created through fraud, duplication, a reversed transaction or a genuine system or entry error. Any correction must be proportionate and not misleading.
7.5 If you delete your ReceiptWave account, unredeemed rewards associated with it will become unavailable and may be recorded as forfeited. ReceiptWave will show a warning before completing account deletion. Records may remain in unlinked or coded form where our Privacy Policy explains that this is required for the Merchant's loyalty accounting, dispute handling or legal compliance.
8. Merchant connections, offers and messages
8.1 Claiming a receipt may create a connection to the relevant Merchant within ReceiptWave so that you can manage receipts, loyalty and your preferences in one place. A connection by itself does not mean that you have consented to promotional messages.
8.2 Before Merchant promotional messages are enabled, ReceiptWave will present an affirmative choice that identifies the Merchant and the type of messages proposed. If you select that option, you consent to receiving commercial electronic messages from that Merchant through ReceiptWave.
8.3 ReceiptWave records when and how that choice was made so the Merchant and ReceiptWave can demonstrate the consent. Accepting these Terms, claiming a receipt, buying from a Merchant or merely viewing a receipt is not a substitute for that choice.
8.4 A Merchant message must identify the Merchant responsible for it and provide an accessible way to stop further promotional messages.
8.5 You may withdraw consent at any time using the message, notification, Rewards or Merchant connection controls provided in ReceiptWave. You may also disconnect from the Merchant. ReceiptWave will action an unsubscribe request promptly and within the period required by law.
8.6 Turning off promotional messages does not prevent ReceiptWave or a Merchant from sending a message reasonably necessary to provide a service you requested or administer a transaction, receipt, security issue or account. Promotional content will not be inserted into a service message unless the required marketing consent exists.
9. Offers
9.1 Unless ReceiptWave expressly says otherwise, an offer displayed or delivered through ReceiptWave is made by the relevant Merchant.
9.2 An offer may be subject to clearly stated conditions such as availability, expiry, eligible products, participating locations and redemption limits. The Merchant is responsible for ensuring its offer is accurate, lawful and honoured according to those conditions.
9.3 ReceiptWave may provide offer codes, claim records or redemption technology, but does not become the supplier of the Merchant's goods or services.
10. Information you add
10.1 You may be able to add tags, notes, warranty details, labels or similar content. You remain responsible for what you enter and retain any rights you have in it.
10.2 You give ReceiptWave a limited, non-exclusive permission to store, process, reproduce and display that content only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure and support the Consumer Service and comply with law.
10.3 Do not enter unlawful content or sensitive information in free-text fields unless you want ReceiptWave to store it and it is lawful for you to do so.
10A. Sharing receipts with an accountant, bookkeeper or employer
10A.1 You may choose to share receipts with an accountant, bookkeeper, BAS or tax agent (a Practice), an employer or another organisation that ReceiptWave has approved to use its organisation portal (an Organisation). Nothing is shared unless you choose it.
10A.2 With a Practice, you start sharing by entering the Practice's code, and you choose whether to share only the receipts you send, the receipts from a date, or all your receipts. The last two include new receipts while the share continues. You can keep any receipt back, change what you share and choose whether to show the Practice your email address.
10A.3 With an employer, accepting an invitation shares nothing. You choose each receipt you send. You may also turn on automatic sending, which sends every new receipt to that employer, including personal purchases. Turn it on only if you use ReceiptWave for work alone. You can turn it off at any time. You can withdraw a sent receipt until the employer exports it.
10A.4 An Organisation can see the receipts you share, including the receipt details and any photo you captured, and can download copies. You can see in the app each time it views or downloads them.
10A.5 You can stop sharing at any time. The Organisation's access through ReceiptWave then ends, but copies it has already downloaded stay with it, under its own legal obligations and its agreement with us. Contact the Organisation about those copies, or contact us if you believe they are being misused.
10A.6 The Organisation is not ReceiptWave's agent, and ReceiptWave is not responsible for the Organisation's advice, decisions or services, or for whether your expense claim or tax return is accepted. Only share a receipt that names another person if you are entitled to.
10A.7 We may pause or end your connection with an Organisation if we suspend or close it. We will tell you if we do.
11. Privacy
11.1 We handle personal information as described in our Privacy Policy and in accordance with applicable privacy law.
11.2 The Privacy Policy explains the information ReceiptWave holds about people who never create an account, web-receipt users, account holders, Merchants and Merchant staff, Organisations you choose to share with and their staff; the service providers that may receive information; overseas disclosures; retention; account deletion; access and correction; and privacy complaints.
11.3 Accepting these Terms is not blanket consent to every possible collection, use or disclosure. Where law requires a specific consent, we will ask separately.
11.4 ReceiptWave uses service providers in Australia and overseas. We do not ask you, merely by accepting these Terms, to waive protections that would otherwise apply to an overseas disclosure under Australian privacy law.
12. Third-party services
12.1 Optional features may interact with services operated by third parties, including Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and third-party sign-in services.
12.2 If you choose to add a receipt to a third-party wallet, the information needed to create that wallet item, including receipt line items, will be provided to the wallet provider. The provider's terms and privacy practices also apply.
12.3 ReceiptWave is not responsible for the independent operation of a third-party service. This does not exclude responsibility ReceiptWave has under law for its own conduct, including the way it selects, configures or uses a provider.
12.4 Wallet passes
If you choose to add a ReceiptWave receipt, loyalty card or other supported item to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, the pass may contain Merchant branding and information, receipt or transaction details, loyalty information and other information associated with the relevant ReceiptWave feature.
A wallet pass reflects information held or supplied through ReceiptWave but is displayed and stored using the relevant wallet provider's technology. The wallet provider's own terms and privacy practices also apply.
ReceiptWave may update a pass where the underlying information or status changes, including to correct information, update loyalty status, or indicate that a Merchant or feature is no longer active. An update does not alter the historical facts of a completed transaction.
You may remove a ReceiptWave pass from your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet at any time using the controls provided by the wallet provider. Removing a pass from your wallet does not necessarily delete the corresponding receipt, loyalty record or other information held in your ReceiptWave account.
13. Acceptable use
13.1 You must not knowingly:
access another person's account or receipt without authority;
misuse receipt links, claim codes, loyalty stamps, rewards or offers;
provide false information for a tax invoice or correction request;
probe, bypass or interfere with security controls;
introduce malicious code, scrape the service at unreasonable scale or disrupt its operation;
reverse engineer the Consumer Service except to the extent the law permits; or
use ReceiptWave for fraud, unlawful conduct or infringement of another person's rights.
13.2 Reasonable personal use of your own receipts, including downloading or providing them to an adviser, is permitted.
14. Availability and changes to the Consumer Service
14.1 We use reasonable care in operating ReceiptWave but do not promise that every feature will be available continuously or be free from delay or error.
14.2 We may update the Consumer Service to add or improve features, correct defects, maintain security, comply with law, respond to changes made by Merchants or technology providers, or discontinue a feature that is no longer reasonably supportable.
14.3 If a planned change materially reduces an existing account feature, we will provide reasonable advance notice where practicable. Urgent changes may be made without advance notice where reasonably necessary to address security, legal or service-integrity risks.
15. Suspending access
15.1 We may suspend or restrict access where we reasonably believe this is necessary to protect a person or ReceiptWave from fraud or security risks, investigate material misuse, comply with law, prevent harm, or respond to a serious breach of these Terms.
15.2 We will limit a suspension to what is reasonably necessary. Where the circumstances allow, we will explain the reason and give you a reasonable opportunity to address it.
16. Deleting your account
16.1 You may stop using ReceiptWave at any time and may request account deletion using the function provided in the app.
16.2 Account deletion removes the information used to operate your personal account, subject to limited records retained for the periods and reasons described in the Privacy Policy.
16.3 Deleting your account does not erase the Merchant's record that a sale occurred. A receipt previously claimed by you is detached from your account and may continue to be held as the Merchant's transaction record for the retention period in the Privacy Policy.
16.4 Certain acceptance, communication, tax, loyalty or dispute records may remain for the limited reasons and periods explained in the Privacy Policy. Depending on the record and the reason for keeping it, it may remain in its original form or may be unlinked, coded or pseudonymised. Because ReceiptWave retains the matching key for some coded records, we do not describe those records as irreversibly de-identified.
16.5 Account deletion makes any unredeemed loyalty rewards unavailable as explained in section 7.5.
17. Australian Consumer Law and responsibility for loss
17.1 Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies a consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified, including rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
17.2 ReceiptWave remains responsible for the Consumer Service it supplies to the extent required by law.
17.3 The Merchant, rather than ReceiptWave, is responsible for the goods and services it sells, the underlying transaction, its receipt information, refunds, warranties, loyalty program and Merchant offers.
17.4 ReceiptWave is not responsible for loss caused solely by inaccurate information supplied by a Merchant or its point-of-sale system, a Merchant failing to honour its obligations, your unauthorised or unlawful use, or the independent operation of a third-party service. This does not apply to the extent ReceiptWave caused or contributed to the loss through its own breach, negligence or other conduct for which liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
17.5 To the extent permitted by law, neither you nor ReceiptWave is liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you accepted these Terms.
18. Intellectual property
18.1 ReceiptWave and its software, branding, design and technology are owned by or licensed to ReceiptWave.
18.2 We give you a personal, limited, revocable and non-transferable right to use the Consumer Service for its intended purpose while these Terms apply. This does not transfer ownership of ReceiptWave technology or intellectual property.
18.3 Merchant names, logos, receipt content and promotional material remain the property of the Merchant or its licensors. Your rights in information you add are addressed in section 10.
19. Changes to these Terms
19.1 We may change these Terms where reasonably necessary to respond to a change in law, address security, reflect a change to the Consumer Service or its suppliers, add new functionality, or clarify existing rights and obligations.
19.2 For a material change, we will give account holders at least 28 days' advance notice through the app. We may also use the email address on the account. The notice will identify the change and its effective date.
19.3 A material change will not operate retrospectively. You may stop using the affected account feature or delete your account before it takes effect. Where appropriate, we will ask you to accept the updated Terms before continuing to use an affected feature.
19.4 We may make an urgent change sooner if reasonably necessary to comply with law or address a serious security or service-integrity risk. We will give notice as soon as reasonably practicable.
19.5 A change to our Privacy Policy does not, merely by notice or continued use, create consent to a new handling practice where law requires specific consent.
20. Complaints and disputes
20.1 For a problem with a purchase, product, price, refund, warranty, loyalty reward or Merchant offer, contact the Merchant first.
20.2 For a problem with ReceiptWave itself, contact us using the support function in the app or on the ReceiptWave website. Privacy complaints may be made using the contact details in our Privacy Policy.
20.3 We will try to resolve a complaint promptly and fairly. Nothing in this section prevents you from contacting a regulator, tribunal or court or exercising a right under law.
21. General
21.1 These Terms are governed by the laws applying in New South Wales, Australia and applicable Commonwealth laws. This does not exclude mandatory rights applying in another Australian State or Territory.
21.2 If a provision is invalid or unenforceable, it is to be read down to the minimum extent necessary and, if it cannot be read down, severed. The remaining provisions continue.
21.3 A delay by either party in exercising a right is not a waiver of that right.
21.4 These Terms, together with any additional terms clearly presented for an optional feature, form the agreement concerning your use of the Consumer Service. Nothing in them limits a right that Australian law says cannot be limited.
