How do I connect (or disconnect) my POS?

Updated 22 October 2026

Connecting your POS is what makes receipts flow automatically — every sale on your till becomes a digital receipt with no extra work. Square is the only point-of-sale system ReceiptWave connects to today. Shopify, Lightspeed and Zettle are coming soon, and so is Xero.

To connect:

  1. Go to Settings → Point of Sale → Connect Square.
  2. Sign in with your Square account and approve the connection.
  3. You'll see "Square · Connected" when it's done. From now on, every Square sale creates a receipt ready for your customer to tap.

If you signed in without connecting a point of sale, the app also asks you once, straight after your first sign-in: tap Connect Square there, or Later to use Settings instead.

To disconnect: Settings → Point of Sale → Disconnect Square. Your existing receipts stay safe, but new sales won't be captured until you reconnect. The same goes for refunds: a refund you make in Square while you're disconnected won't show on the customer's ReceiptWave receipt, and reconnecting afterwards doesn't bring it back. If a customer needs a refund note, reconnect Square before you process the refund.

If you're asked to also remove us in Square

Disconnecting does two things: it drops our stored access, and it asks Square to end the connection at their end. The first always works. The second is a conversation between us and Square that can fail — so we check the answer and tell you which one you got.

If it worked, you'll see "Disconnected. Square has confirmed ReceiptWave no longer has access." and there's nothing else to do.

If it didn't, you'll see this:

Disconnected — but we couldn't confirm it with Square. Please also remove ReceiptWave in your Square account settings.

That means we've stopped on our side but the connection may still be open at Square's. To finish it:

  1. Sign in at squareup.com and open Settings → Account & Settings → Apps (some accounts show this as Apps & Services).
  2. Find ReceiptWave in the list of connected applications.
  3. Choose Remove / Revoke access.

If ReceiptWave isn't in that list, it's already gone.

If you disconnected before 24 August 2026, please check. Until then our request to Square was being rejected because of a fault at our end, and we weren't reading the reply — so we showed you a successful disconnect whether or not it had worked. That's fixed. But we can't put it right retrospectively: undoing it needs the access we'd already given up, so only you can remove it now. The three steps above take about two minutes.

Shopify and Xero

Shopify and Xero aren't available yet, so you won't see a button to connect them. If you connected either one while we were testing it, that connection is paused: nothing is read from or sent to Shopify or Xero, and nothing has been deleted. You'll see it marked Paused in the web portal under POS connections, where you can still disconnect it.

If a customer opens a Xero invoice link from one of your stands, they'll see "This invoice isn't available online. Please contact" followed by your business name. Please send them the invoice another way.

We don't show your bank details on any page a customer can open.
