How do I set up my NFC stand?

Programming a stand writes your unique receipt link onto its NFC tag. You do it once per stand, from your phone, in under a minute.

Programming is permanent. Once a stand is written it's locked, so it can't be changed, re-used, or pointed at anyone else's business — including by someone who picks your stand up off the counter. Have a blank stand ready before you start.

Go to More → NFC stands → Program new stand.
Tick I understand programming locks this stand permanently, tap Start programming, then hold your phone flat against the stand until it says "Stand programmed and locked".
Tap Test it — the app creates a sample receipt, then you tap the stand like a customer would. See the sample receipt? You're live.

Tips

Put the stand where customers already tap to pay — same gesture, no explaining needed.
Already have stands from somewhere else? When the app asks Do you have your NFC stands? after you first sign in, tap Yes, I have them and go straight to programming. We won't post you any.
Lost or broken a stand, or need more? See "How do I order more NFC stands, or replace a lost or broken one?".
Phones must be unlocked and held flat against the centre of the stand for a second.
The test is optional but worth the 30 seconds — it proves the whole journey end to end.
No NFC on your phone? Skip for now and program later from any phone with NFC.
If your phone is set to reduce motion (Reduce Motion on iPhone, Remove animations on Android), the ring around the stand picture stays still instead of pulsing while the app programs the stand or waits for your test tap. It's still working.
If a stand won't program because it's already locked, it has been used before — that one can't be re-programmed, so use a blank stand. The app says "This stand is already locked and can't be re-programmed. Use a new stand."
Occasionally a stand writes correctly but won't lock. The app tells you if that happens ("Stand programmed — it couldn't be locked, so it can be re-programmed later"); the stand still works normally.
If you close your phone's NFC window before the stand is written, the app says "Programming was cancelled. Tap Try again when you're ready." Nothing has gone wrong.
Changed your mind while the app is waiting for the stand? Tap Cancel under "Writing…", or go back. Nothing is written or locked, and Try again uses the same stand registration, so trying again doesn't add extra stands to your account. The one exception: if an attempt fails after your link was already written to the stand (for example, the check after writing fails), Try again registers a fresh stand, so the same link can never end up on two stands.
If programming fails for any other reason, the app says "Couldn't program the stand. Hold your phone still against it and try again." Tap Try again.
