How do I close my ReceiptWave account?

Updated 15 October 2026

You can close your account from the app (Settings → Close account) or from the portal (Settings → Close account). Both do the same thing. Only the account owner can close the account: a staff member's sign-in can't, and neither can an API key or a device.

Download your records first. Your sales records live in your point-of-sale system — ReceiptWave is not your books. What we can give you is a list of the receipts we issued for you, as a CSV you can open in a spreadsheet or give to your accountant. There's a download button on the closure screen, or go to Portal → Export any time before you close. Dates in that file are your store's local time, and the last column says which timezone was used.

  1. Open Settings and choose Close account.
  2. Read what happens, and download your receipt list if you want it.
  3. Type your business name to confirm, and tap Close this account.

You may be asked to sign in again first. For your security, closing an account needs a sign-in from the last 10 minutes. If you signed in longer ago than that, the app says "For your security, please sign in again to close your account." and takes you to the sign-in screen. Sign in as the account owner, and the app brings you back to Close account. Your account isn't closed yet: type your business name and tap Close this account again.

What happens straight away

You have 30 days to change your mind

Sign in as the account owner within 30 days — in the app, on the website, or with Square — and your account reopens with everything still in place: your profile, your stands, your receipts and your settings. A staff member signing in doesn't reopen it.

Two things don't come back automatically: your API keys (a key that was revoked stays revoked, in case it was revoked for a reason) and your point-of-sale connection. You'll need to set those up again.

Your loyalty program

Closing your ReceiptWave account will disable ReceiptWave-based redemption of outstanding loyalty stamps and rewards. Any obligations you have to customers in respect of previously earned benefits remain your responsibility under the Merchant Services Agreement and applicable law.

In plain terms: your customers can't redeem their stamps through ReceiptWave any more, but if you promised someone a free coffee, you still owe them a free coffee.

After 30 days

After the 30-day recovery period, we delete or de-identify personal information that we no longer need and are not required or permitted by law to retain. Certain limited records may be retained where necessary to preserve historical receipts, meet legal record-keeping obligations, prevent repeated introductory offers, or establish or defend legal rights.

Your NFC stands and tags

While you can still reopen the account, your tags stay exactly as they are. After the 30 days, they are released — they stop working and stop being attached to your old account. The physical tag is still yours; it is only the link to ReceiptWave that ends.

If you come back later and want to use the same tag, email support@receiptwave.com first — we will reopen your account for you, because ReceiptWave only allows one account per ABN. Anything else about a tag — a different ABN, or an ABN we cannot check — goes to a person at the same address.

Once you are back in, go to Portal → Stands, type the tag's identifier into Register a stand, and we will reconnect it if you have the tag and your ABN is still active on the Australian Business Register.

Reconnecting a tag brings back the tag and nothing else. No receipts, no customers, no tap history, no settings.
