How do I add or verify my ABN?

Your ABN is what lets ReceiptWave issue proper tax invoices instead of plain receipts. Adding it takes a minute, and the app checks it against the Australian Business Register for you.

Go to Settings → Tax & GST (or tap the amber ABN banner on your dashboard — it says "Add your ABN", or "Confirm your ABN" if you signed in with Square).
Either search by your business name, or type the 11-digit ABN directly. If you signed in with Square, the ABN from your Square profile is already filled in and marked Needs confirming.
Check the result card — your business name, type and status — and confirm whether you're registered for GST.
Tap Verify & continue (it says Confirm when you're confirming the ABN from Square). Done — your receipts can now be tax invoices.

Tips

No ABN? Choose "I don't have an ABN" and ReceiptWave issues plain receipts instead — you can add an ABN any time later.
Until your ABN is verified, your legal name is blank rather than filled in from your trading name or your Square account. A legal name on a tax invoice is a statement about a registered entity, so we only show one the register has confirmed.
If what you tell us differs from the ABN register, we'll issue plain receipts until it's confirmed — you can keep trading the whole time.
Spaces are fine — "51 824 753 556" and "51824753556" are the same ABN. If we say "That ABN isn't valid", the digits don't pass the ATO's check, which almost always means a typo. Check it against your ABN registration.
Each ABN can belong to only one ReceiptWave account. If we say "This ABN already has a ReceiptWave account", email support@receiptwave.com with your ABN and we'll help you get back in — including if you closed that account yourself. During setup you can still carry on: tap Skip for now (or I don't have an ABN) under the message and add your ABN later.
Signed in with Square? We suggest the ABN from your Square profile, but we don't use it until you confirm it. Please check it before you tap Confirm — your ABN appears on every tax invoice you issue, so it needs to be the right one. Until you confirm it, your receipts are plain receipts.
If the ABN box is empty after signing in with Square, your Square profile has no ABN, or the one there isn't a valid ABN. Type yours in.
Using an older version of the app? It won't show the Square suggestion — just type your ABN in. Updating the app shows it.
The web portal also shows a Square ABN as Needs confirming. Confirm it in the app.
Your ABN appears on your tax invoices. Before you've issued any receipts you can change it (Profile → Business Identity → Change ABN). Once you've issued receipts it's locked, because each receipt keeps the ABN printed on it — if it's genuinely wrong, email support@receiptwave.com and we'll correct it for you.
