Deleting your ReceiptWave account

ReceiptWave Pty Ltd (ABN 25 696 339 992)

How to delete your account from the app

  1. Open ReceiptWave and go to the Profile tab.
  2. Scroll down and tap Delete account.
  3. The app asks you to confirm twice. This is deliberate — deletion cannot be undone.
  4. Confirm both times. Your account is deleted straight away and you are signed out.

To protect your account, deleting it needs a recent sign-in. If you signed in a while ago, the app signs you out and asks you to sign in again first; do that, then repeat the steps above.

There is no waiting period and no way to recover the account afterwards. If you want to keep any receipts, save them before you delete.

If you cannot use the app

Email privacy@receiptwave.com and ask us to delete your account.

Write from the email address on the account if you can. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and we will not delete an account on a request we cannot verify. We will respond within a reasonable period, usually within 30 days.

Use this route if you have lost access to your sign-in, changed email address, or cannot open the app.

If you have only ever opened a receipt in a browser

You do not have an account, and there is nothing for us to delete. Opening a receipt link does not create one — we do not learn your name or email address, so we have nothing to match a request against.

What we do store is a random code on your device, in a cookie. You can remove it yourself at any time by clearing cookies and site data for this site in your browser settings. You do not need to ask us.

What is deleted

Deleted immediately and permanently:

Any stamps you have collected, and any rewards you have earned but not used, are lost when you delete. They cannot be restored.

What is kept, and why

Your receipts stay with the shops that issued them. Your name comes off them and they no longer appear anywhere in the app, but the receipt itself is the shop's record of a sale as well as yours, and they must keep it for their own tax purposes. Each receipt still opens from its own web link — the same link you were given when you tapped.

A record of your choices, without your name on it. We keep a record of the terms you accepted, the claiming explanation you acknowledged, and whether you allowed shops to send you offers. Your account is removed from each of these and replaced with a one-way code, so the record still shows what was agreed, in which words, and when — without naming you. We keep them because a question can arrive months after an account closes, and "we have no record of what you agreed to" is the worst answer we could give you.

Records of emails we sent you. Your email address and account reference are removed and replaced with the same kind of code, so the record shows that a message was sent and when, without identifying you.

Tax invoices keep your name. If you asked a shop for a tax invoice or a replacement, that document keeps your name, because your name is part of what makes it valid for a tax claim. We cannot remove it without destroying the document's purpose.

How long we keep these

The retention periods for each kind of record are set out in our Privacy Policy. In summary: records of your choices are kept for 12 months after deletion, records of marketing consent for 24 months, and email send records for 12 months from sending. Receipts that are no longer linked to anyone follow the shop's own receipt schedule, measured from the date of the original transaction.
